Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom ESRB rating says Link is also playable
Quit hogging the spotlight, Link!
During the latest Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, a brand-new top-down Legend of Zelda game for Switch. While that was big news in and of itself, it wasn’t the most exciting part of the reveal.
The debut trailer for Echoes of Wisdom revealed that Link got himself into more trouble than usual, getting gobbled up by another dimension. Just before disappearing, Link managed to save Zelda from her crystal prison, which led to her being revealed as the main playable protagonist in this adventure…or so we thought.
The official ESRB rating for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has come out, and the game has secured itself an E10+ rating. The more interesting part of that rating is the game’s description, which specifically states that Link is playable along with Zelda. You can read the ESRB description in full below.
This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Zelda as she attempts to dispel rifts throughout Hyrule and rescue Link. From a ¾-overhead perspective, players explore various environments while fighting stylized enemies (e.g., humans, creatures). As Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies; Zelda can use a magic wand to summon creatures (e.g., wind-up knights, pig soldiers, slime) for battle. Some enemies can be defeated by being set on fire; other creatures dissolve into mist when defeated. Battle sequences are somewhat frenetic, with several enemies attacking/fighting at once.
Just how much and when Link will become playable remains a mystery. It’ll be interesting to see just how much Nintendo reveals about playable Link the leadup to the game’s release, as it clearly seems Zelda taking the starring role is the focus with this installment.

24d agoIf I had to guess I would say that his sections bookend the game, intro and final battle (which has already classically involved them both cooperating). It would be cool to have a late game dungeon type area where you are regularly swapping gameplay sections between the two of them. I’m not mad about this, Zelda will still be the focus for sure
XD Good point.
I wondered if maybe this could be for a multiplayer feature. But I don't know what I'm basing that on.

23d agoPretty sure it's just for the intro like we already saw. People need to chill.

23d agoI was fine with only playing Zelda and I'm fine with playing as Link during some of it as well. I only ask for good gameplay.
It would be fun if the unlocked "Master Quest" after you finish the game was to play through it as Link with his usual combat options, to highlight the gameplay differences between him and Zelda. But I know that would be a lot of work.

"People need to chill."
What have you been smoking, Kingbroly? =D This is the internet where to get attention is number one priority and being negative is the easiest access to it xD
Personally my biggest issue for the "Zelda finally gets her own game but..." argument is they cheapened out here reusing the assets and engine from the Link's Awakening game. I think she would have deserved a from-scratch game with her very own art style. But hey!
Anyway, it's fun to speculate how much Link will be playable. The beginning seems obvious but we could see more parts. Think the best would if the two worked together at the end. One of my fav parts of TP actually.
We'll see.
That's my gripe, too. I wasn't too fond of the "Toy" look in the first place, and to use it again for the "playable Zelda" game diminishes the game's identity a bit. But probably the whole reason the game exists is because reusing Awakening's assets made the game fit into a viable budget and time frame.
