Inside Out 2 passes The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the second-highest grossing animated movie

We’re used to sharing news here about Nintendo breaking records left and right, but we don’t often talk about them losing their crown. Unfortunately for the Big N, one of their projects has just slipped down a peg in placement, and it’s all due to an animation juggernaut.

For awhile now, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been the second-highest grossing animated movie at the box office, but now the film has been relegated to third place. This is all due to the astronomical success of Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which as reached $578.3 million in North America and $1.37 billion worldwide. That’s just enough to eek out a second place victory over The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which sits at $1.36 billion.

Inside Out 2 is currently the highest-grossing film of 2024 and it reached the $1 billion global box office figure in record time. Inside Out 2 is also now Pixar’s top-grossing movie ever, and dthe only movie it is yet to surpass in terms of total box office cume is Frozen 2, which amassed $1.45 billion.

Of course, now all eyes are going to be on The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2. After it’s huge achievement, can the sequel steal back the second place crown from Inside Out 2?
